About The Design  The  tradition of leaving a meal out on Christmas Eve goes back a very long way. In former times, the "Fjøsnisse" or 'barn nisse'  aka nissen/nissan/tomte was rewarded for guarding the house, the farm and the animals ... with a BIG bowl of risegrot or risengrynsgrøt aka rice porridge, topped with a huge knob of butter. But ... you must be generous with that butter, or the nisse might get upset and play tricks!
